HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c421W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what are the most recently proved estimates of coal reserves under the River Forth; and what proportions are considered recoverable.

Mr. Eadie

The present estimate of reserves which are economically workable from Seafield and Frances, on the north shore of the Forth, is 38 million tons. Exploration during the past 12 months shows that there are also substantial reserves of coal under the southern part of the Forth, but it is too early to assess what proportion of these reserves may be economically workable.
