asked the Secretary of State for Industry when he next expects to meet Sir Monty Finniston, the Chairman of the BSC, to discuss the present state of the industry.

I am in regular contact with Sir Monty Finniston about the main issues facing the British Steel Corporation.

Mr. Stanley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many people were employed by the British Steel Corporation at the time of nationalisation; and how many are employed now.

Mr. Kaufman

The number of employees at July 1967 was 257,000 and on 4th October 1975 was 220,000.
