HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 cc427-8W
Dr. John A. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received from trade unions representing dockers in the BNFL concerning the acceptance of overseas contracts for reprocessing nuclear fuel; what replies he has given; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Benn

BNFL does not itself employ dockers. The unions to which most dockers belong have, however, considerable membership among BNFL employees. I have met representatives of these and other main unions representing BNFL employees during the last few weeks. They expressed to me strongly the view that contracts of this kind could properly and safely be accepted.
