HC Deb 04 December 1975 vol 901 cc682-3W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will grant early release to prisoners whose sentences would terminate in the opening weeks of 1976 for Christmas, as he did last year.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

In accordance with traditional practice in Northern Ireland, I propose to recommend to Her Majesty the grant of short periods of remission to permit the release for Christmas of certain prisoners due to be discharged within the following fortnight. Just over 30 prisoners are expected to be involved; they will receive remission of sentence of 14 days or less.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he will inform those prisoners in Northern Ireland prisons who have been granted Christmas parole.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Prisoners granted home leave at Christmas will be advised individually a few days beforehand.
