HC Deb 04 December 1975 vol 901 cc693-4W
Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the extent of the training given to prison hospital male nurses before appointment as such.

Dr. Summerskill

Male nurses are not recruited as such in England and Wales for employment in prison hospitals.

Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the current total of prison hospital officers; of this number, how many hold recognised nursing qualifications; and which, and specifically how many, are State registered nurses.

Dr. Summerskill

In England and Wales there are 665 hospital officers currently in post, 62 of whom hold recognised nursing qualifications. Twenty-five of these are State registered nurses.
