HC Deb 04 December 1975 vol 901 cc724-5W
Mr. Boscawen

asked the Secretary of Sate for Social Services what would be the estimated saving of reducing the period during which a retirement pensioner can stay at a National Health Service hospital without a reduction in his pension from eight weeks to none.

Mr. Meacher

It is estimated that the saving in retirement pension expenditure as such could be of the order of £30 million a year. There would, however, be substantial administrative costs of about £4 million a year arising from the extra adjustments which would need to be made.
