HC Deb 04 December 1975 vol 901 c699W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Prime Minister what are his plans for improving the arrangements for making ministerial appointments.

The Prime Minister

The Government's aim is that the field of selection for public appointments by Ministers should be as wide as possible. I have arranged for a small Public Appointments Unit to be set up in the Civil Service Department working to the Head of the Civil Service: their task, in conjunction with Departments generally and in consultation with representative bodies, will be to improve the recruitment of able people, from all sections of the community for public service.
