HC Deb 04 December 1975 vol 901 c713W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures he intends to take to provide employment for the 300 construction workers now unemployed in the Isle of Wight.

Mr. Armstrong

The various measures which have been taken by the Government to stimulate housebuilding have been as effective on the Isle of Wight as elsewhere. The Government have recently allocated additional expenditure for public sector construction programmes and for factory building, mainly in the assisted areas, but scope for action to assist the industry in current economic circumstances is limited.
