HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc496-7W
Mr. McCasker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what stage the negotiations have reached with teachers in technical colleges in Northern Ireland on the proposed new contract of terms and conditions of employment; and on which points there is disagreement;

(2) what is the estimated cost of implementing the new contract of employment for teachers in technical colleges in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Moyle

Although the agreement about conditions of service made between the Council of Local Education Authorities and further education teachers' organisations in England and Wales does not apply to Northern Ireland, negotiations about its acceptance in principle are at present in progress I have asked the new Negotiating Committee for Teachers' Salaries and Conditions of Service (Further Education) to look at the recommendations made by an informal working party set up by the Northern Ireland Department of Education earlier this year at the request of the teachers' organisation in Northern Ireland.

It is estimated that the implementation of the agreement in Northern Ireland would cost about £260,000 per annum.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of of Stale for Northern Ireland how many teachers in technical colleges in Northern Ireland do not have a contract of employment.

Mr. Moyle

Approximately 400.
