HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc525-6W
Mr. Blaker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners in Her Majesty's Prisons and how many prison staff are wholly or partly engaged in horticultural production.

Dr. Summerskill

Horticultural production forms part of the general farming and gardening activity of the Prison Department and the numbers of prisoners and staff engaged in it vary accordingly.

It is estimated that an average of about 175 prisoners and 20 staff are mainly engaged in horticulture.
