HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc559-60W
Mr. MacGregor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the total cost to central Government, local government and public corporations, re- spectively,if all wage settlements in these areas in the current year from 1st August were at the maximum under the Government's anti-inflation policy of £6 per week.

Mr. Joel Barnett

The cost in a full year if all settlements during the 12 months commencing 1st August 1975 were at the maximum under the current pay limits would be of the order of £650 million for central Government, £740 million for local government and £580 million for public corporations. These figures relate to the increase in the pay bill and do not allow for offsets through taxation or for additional costs arising on account of superannuation.
