HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc526-7W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Lord President of the Council what proportion of outgoing parliamentary correspondence currently goes by first class mail; and what would be the additional amount due to the Post Office if all this mail were charged for at the first class rate.

Mr. Edward Short

For the reasons given in my reply to the hon. Gentleman's Question of 12th November—[Vol. 899, c.718.]—virtually all outgoing parliamentary correspondence is currently sent by first class mail.

It is estimated that if all this mail were charged for at the first class rate the additional amount due to the Post Office could amount to £23,000 at current prices.
