HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 cc545-6W
52. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many fully trained and experienced nurses have been given notice in the Humberside Area Health Authority and on whose authority.

Mr. Meacher

None. The only such nurses whose services are no longer being retained are those who have reached normal retiring age. The district management teams make decisions regarding the retention of nurses over retiring age.

Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will introduce a scheme of compensation for nurses who are forced to give up their occupation as a result of injuries sustained during the course of their duties.

Mr. Meacher

The National Health Service (Injury Benefits) Regulations 1974 already provide for the payment of injury benefits to nurses and other persons engaged in the NHS who cease employment because of permanent incapacity arising from injuries received in the course of their employment.
