HC Deb 02 December 1975 vol 901 c565W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the percentage increase in the cost of living between 1954–55 and 1974–75; and what was the gross national product in each year.

Mr. Denzil Davies

On the basis of the movement in the General Index of Retail Prices, 173 per cent.; the gross national product at current factor cost is estimated to have been £15,980 million in 1954—an estimate for the financial year 1954–55 is not available—and £78,858 million in 1974–75.
