Notes:
(1) Figures for the number of ballot papers counted in districts in Scotland are not available because no separate district verification was undertaken.
(2) The figures for total electors are taken from the 1975 Register and include peers, merchant seamen and registered Service voters as well as young people who become entitled to vote before 16th February 1976 by reaching their 18th birthday.
(3) Column 3 includes votes rejected at the counting stages.
(4) The percentages given in Column 4 are subject to error because:
(a) The names of people who have died or emigrated since 10th October 1975 (or 15th September 1974 in Northern Ireland) will still appear on the register; as will those entitled to vote before 16th February 1976 who were not 18 on 5th June 1975;
(b) Some voters may be registered at more than one address;
(c) Column 2 includes all members of the forces and their spouses who were registered as service voters on 16th February 1975. These would have been entitled to vote under the normal electoral arrangements and if they did so would be included in Column 3. They might, however, have been entitled to vote instead in accordance with the special arrangements made under Section 1(5) of the Referendum Act and if they did so they would not be included in Column 3.
