HC Deb 07 August 1975 vol 897 cc357-8W
31. Mr. Fairbairn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the cost of the original contract for the landscaping of New Palace Yard; what changes have been made since then, with details of the increases in expenditure involved; and if he will provide a detailed breakdown of the items represented in the cost of £237,000 for Phase II.

Mr. Armstrong

The original estimate for phase I of the landscaping was £54,000. As I told the hon. Member in my answer to his previous Question on 4th August, the final cost for phase I

profits, or increase in losses attributable to price restraint in that year.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The surpluses and deficits for the most recent periods for which figures are available are given in the table below. In general, it is not possible to quantify how much profits and losses have been affected by price restraint, but the table shows the proposed grants to those industries eligible, under the Statutory Corporations (Financial Provisions) Act 1975, for compensation for price restraint.

was £54,500. This slight increase was mostly due to difficulties of working on site beyond the contractor's control. The items represented by the £237,000 estimated cost of phase II are as follows: paved areas; grassed areas; seats; lamps; railings; plumbing; kerbs and steps; facings; drainage; electrical services such as floodlighting; gas; the new entrance porch; the water cascade; and traffic signs and lighting.
