HC Deb 07 August 1975 vol 897 c485W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what can be done by his Department to safeguard the future employment of food production workers in milk factories, in view of the situation in many factories in the South West of England.

Mr. John Fraser

There are a number of factors which affect the employment prospects of workers in milk factories. My Department has no control over the majority of these factors nor any direct responsibility for them. Some of the factories in the South-West assisted area may, however, be eligible to benefit under the temporary employment subsidy scheme whereby a short-term subsidy may be paid to companies in assisted areas who are prepared to defer impending redundancies affecting 50 or more workers.
