During the financial year 1974–75, expenditure on the central recruitment campaign amounted to £635,000, and we estimate the total expenditure, excluding staff costs, amounted to something like £1,000,000. There were 7.893 recruits appointed during the financial year, giving an average estimated cost per recruit of £127.
