§ Mr. Richard Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will arrange for the Steering Committee reviewing the local authority allowance system, and chaired by an Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, to consider replacing the present system with a salary structure based on the principle of part-time service.
§ Mr. OakesThe new system of attendance allowances has been in operation for only a short time. For that reason the review is principally directed to the operation of the present allowances and it is not proposed to extend it to the possibility of introducing salaries for members of local authorities.
