HC Deb 04 August 1975 vol 897 c47W
Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will seek powers to discourage the practice whereby some retailers display notices in their shops stating that there is a specified addition to marked prices if payment is made by trading checks; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Williams

The terms on which checks are accepted in return for goods are normally a matter for negotiation between retailers and trading check companies. But where they differ from the terms applicable to cash sales, I think it desirable that a retailer should warn his customers that this is so.
