HC Deb 04 August 1975 vol 897 c52W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what results surveillance licensing introduced on most yarns and fabrics of all main fibres imported from non-EEC sources has so far produced; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Deakins

In general, the results obtained to date from the system of textile import surveillance do not indicate any major changes from the trend of imports established in the first five months of this year, which in most sectors are below last year's level. However, detailed analysis of the results has indicated certain areas of potential cause for concern, and these are being taken into account during the negotiations between the EEC Commission and textile supplying countries for restraint agreements under the GATT Multifibre Arrangement.
