HC Deb 04 August 1975 vol 897 cc63-4W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is aware of the blight to homes caused by proposals to build a Stretford bypass (Route 114); what is the current status of these proposals; and, if it is not intended to proceed with this road, if he will take steps to see that the threat of blight to homes in Stretford is lifted forthwith.

Mr. Carmichael

Yes; a number of blighted properties have been purchased. As a result of changed circumstances, a trunk road bypass is no longer considered necessary and the Trafford District Council will be notified shortly that protection of the route for this purpose may be discontinued. It is, of course, possible that the Greater Manchester Council may wish to consider alternative proposals for this route.
