Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total strength of the RUC Reserve.

Mr. Moyle

The total strength of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve on 30th June 1975 was 4,863.

Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many members of the RUC Reserve were formerly members of the Ulster Special Constabulary.

Mr. Moyle

On 30th June 1975, there were 1,287 members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve who were formerly members of the Ulster Special Constabulary.

Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many members of the RUC Reserve have been dismissed the service on conviction of criminal offences and arms offences, respectively.

Mr. Moyle

Two members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve have been dismissed from the service on conviction of criminal offences. No members have been dismissed on conviction of arms offences but three resigned prior to conviction. In addition, nine members of the RUC Reserve resigned voluntarily before investigations had been completed in respect of three alleged firearms offences and six alleged criminal offences.
