HC Deb 30 April 1975 vol 891 cc174-5W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many Government factories were allocated in Wales to tenants and purchasers in each year since 1971; what was the total area involved in each year; how many jobs were provided; and what is the target for 1975.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

I have been asked to reply.

The information is as follows:—

Year Number of factories Area(sq. ft.) Number employed
1971 9 309,000 800
1972 15 455,100 1,100
1973 17 393,100 900
1974 12 294,000 200

For 1975 four factories–61,000 sq. ft. —have already been allocated. 166,800 sq. ft. of space remains available and it is expected that 260,000 sq. ft. of advance factory space will be completed. It is hoped that as much of this as possible will be allocated in 1975. Recruitment is continuing at a number of factories and additional jobs will arise for some time to come.
