§ 37. Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will seek to improve the home production of 377W fertiliser by taking steps to encourage the development and expansion of British blood and bone fertiliser production; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MeacherBy reasons of their cost and difficulty with large scale application, fertilisers made from bone and blood constitute only a very minor proportion of total fertiliser use in this country and their use is confined entirely to gardening and specialist horticulture. Even a massive expansion of production would therefore make only a very marginal contribution to total fertiliser supplies but in any case, I believe that the quantities of raw material available are insufficient to support such expansion.
