§ Mr. Sainsburyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the best estimate he has available of the amount of land coming into development in (a) Engand and Scotland and (b) Wales as new development in each of the last five years; and how much of that land was developed by (a) local authorities. (b) new town corporations, and (c) Government Departments, respectively;
(2) what is the best estimate he has available of the amount of land coming into development in (a) England and Scotland and (b) Wales for redevelopment in each of the last five years; and how much of that land was developed by (a) local authorities, (b) new town corporations, and (c) Government Departments, respectively.
§ Mr. OakesEstimates for individual years, or for Wales separately, are not available. For Great Britain, it is estimated, on the basis of agricultural census figures, that in the five years ending 1972–73 about 70,000 acres annually came into development from agricultural use. Figures for redevelopment over these years are not available. It is estimated that approaching one-half of this land was developed by the public sector, but no breakdown by type of authority is available.
