HC Deb 23 April 1975 vol 890 c338W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will compile and publish a list of all the circumstances in which unmarried women are treated less favourably than married women in their employment in the public services generally and in local government.

Mr. John Fraser

I am informed by the Departments concerned that in the Home Civil Service and the police unmarried women are not treated less favourably than married women in their employment, although there may be differences in the scales of accommodation, or allowances in lieu, where these are provided.

Detailed information about other public services is not readily available. I am making inquiries and will write to my hon. Friend.
