Redundancy Payments

Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will consider increasing the proportion of the cost of redundancy payments met by the Redundancy Fund.

My right hon. Friend is not intending at present to propose any change in the level of the rebate which employers can claim from the Redundancy Fund in respect of statutory redundancy payments which they are required to make.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he considers that the finances of the Redundancy Fund are adequate in view of the current trend in unemployment.

Yes, but we are taking powers under the Employment Protection Bill to restore the fund's borrowing powers to levels broadly comparable with what they were in 1965.
