HC Deb 21 April 1975 vol 890 cc235-6W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many members comprise the Board of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive; what pay and emoluments are paid to them and in what circumstances; and what was the total financial cost in the last financial year.

Mr. Concannon

There are nine members. Although there is authority in the Housing Executive Act (Northern Ireland) 1971 for the payment of remuneration and allowances, they have not in fact received any payment other than travelling expenses. The total cost of these expenses in the last financial year was £1,300.

Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will take appropriate steps to enable the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to resume its former policy, recently stopped, of providing home loans to intending owner occupiers, especially first-time home owners.

Mr. Concannon

The available funds are limited, consequently the Housing Executive will be able to lend only to certain categories of borrowers in the present financial year. It is proposed to take an early opportunity to discuss with the Building Societies Association the provision of mortgage finance in Northern Ireland from non-public sources.
