asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many prosecutions have been instituted, and how many convictions obtained, in the most recent 12 months for which figures are available, against persons alleged to be members of illegal organisations.

The Attorney-General

I have been asked to reply.

During the period 1st April 1974–31st March 1975 directions were issued for the prosecution of 158 persons in respect of belonging or professing to belong to a proscribed organisation in contravention of Section 19(1)(a) of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1973.
