HC Deb 14 April 1975 vol 890 cc34-5W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will enumerate research being undertaken into the causes and treatment of migraine and consider increasing the work now that the Migraine Trust is unable to undertake new projects through lack of funds.

Dr. Owen

The Medical Research Council is currently supporting some research relevant to the problems of migraine, including basic studies in cerebral blood flow, hormone disturbances and disorders of the special senses such as hearing and vision. My Department is sponsoring a project of epidemiological research on the disease at the University of Southampton and another, concerned partly with migraine and partly with other cerebro-vascular disorders, is being supported under the locally-organised research scheme at the Hull Royal Infirmary.

Any new proposals for research on this disease will be considered by the MRC or my Department as appropriate.
