Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Secretary of of State for Wales (1) how many fifth-formers in the 11–16 year age range secondary schools applied for admission (a) to sixth-form colleges (b) to technical colleges (c) to sixth-form colleges and to technical colleges in Wales for the last academic year; and what proportion were accepted in the case of (a) and (b) and to each type of college in the case of (c);

(2) what proportion of fifth-form pupils in areas served by sixth-form colleges in Wales entered courses of full-time education other than in sixth-form colleges in the last academic year; and how this compares with fifth-form pupils in neighbouring conventional secondary schools;

(3) how many students followed SCE-conversion courses at sixth-form colleges in Wales during the last academic year.
