HC Deb 11 April 1975 vol 889 c499W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she Will make a statement on immunisation from rabies.

Dr. Owen

My Department issued guidance in November 1971, on the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation of the Central Health Services Council, stressing that vaccination should be offered to everyone exposed in the course of work with animals to special risks of contracting rabies.

Since 1946, eight cases of human rabies have been confirmed in England, the last being in 1969. In each case the infection was acquired abroad. The situation is being kept under review.
