HC Deb 11 April 1975 vol 889 cc494-5W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the revenue from income tax collected in each county of Wales and in Wales as a whole for the last available year.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Gross receipts from income tax collected in the counties of Wales in 1973–74 were as follows:

County Income Tax collected
£m
Clwyd 21.4
Dyfed 25.1
Mid Glamorgan 30.2
South Glamorgan 88.9
West Glamorgan 39.7
Gwent 38.2
Gywnedd 10.5
WALES 254.1

These figures include an unknown amount of tax collected in Wales in respect of taxpayers resident outside Wales, and do not include an unknown amount of tax collected in England in respect of taxpayers resident in Wales. In particular, the figures for South Glamorgan include £30.2 million tax collected by Cardiff (Marine) office in respect of seafarers and also a relatively small amount of tax collected by the Public Department offices at Cardiff. PAYE tax for public servants dealt with by these offices it not collected in Wales.
