HC Deb 11 April 1975 vol 889 c485W
Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of fifth-form pupils from conventional secondary schools entered on courses of full-time education in each of the last three academic years.

Mr. Armstrong

The following are the proportions of older pupils from maintained secondary schools, excluding Middle Schools, in England and Wales going on to a sixth form course in each of the last three years:

Percent.
January 1972 44.2
January 1973 42.5
January 1974 40.3

These percentages relate the number of pupils aged 16 at the beginning of the academic year who would normally be in the first year of a sixth form course to the number of pupils in school the previous year aged 15 at the beginning of that academic year.
