HC Deb 11 April 1975 vol 889 cc501-2W
Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many births were induced in Scotland for the latest year for which statistics are available; and by what percentage this differs from the previous year.

Mr. William Ross

Information is not available on the total number of induced births in Scotland, but of the births in those hospitals which provide central returns—some 80 per cent. of total hospital births—28,697 were induced in 1973. This was a 7.3 per cent. increase over the corresponding 1972 figure.
