HC Deb 10 April 1975 vol 889 cc448-9W
31. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will list the statutory provisions and regulations governing the adoption of Vietnamese children; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Owen

The entry of the child to the United Kingdom is governed by the Immigration Rules for Control on Entry laid before Parliament on 25th January 1973 under Section 3(2) of the Immigration Act 1971.

Once the child is in this country, the normal adoption law applies, that is, the Adoption Act 1958 and, in England and Wales, the following rules and regulations made under that Act:

The Adoption (High Court) Rules 1971 (SI 1971, No. 1520).

The Adoption (County Court) Rules 1959 (SI 1959, No. 480).

The Adoption (Juvenile Court) Rules 1959 (SI 1959, No. 504).

The Adoption Agencies Regulations 1959 (SI 1959, No. 639).

Similar rules and regulations apply in Scotland.
