The Burnham Committee has still to reach a final decision about which schools will be designated for the payment of special allowances to teachers in schools in areas of social deprivation.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consultations he has had with the Burnham Committee about the criteria laid down by the committee for schools servicing areas of social deprivation.

Mr. Prentice

None, but through my representatives on the Management Panel I am aware of the discussions within the committee about the criteria.
