HC Deb 29 November 1974 vol 882 cc283-4W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection how many prosecutions have been undertaken by the Department for breaches of the price control regulations since the most recent legislation was introduced.

Mr. Maclennan

So far no prosecutions have been undertaken under the Counter-Inflation Act 1973. The power to undertake prosecutions in relation to price regulation orders under Section 2 of the Prices Act 1974 lies with local weights and measures authorities except in Scotland, where prosecutions are the responsibility of the procurator fiscal. I am not aware that there may have been any prosecutions under this section of the Act.

If my hon. Friend has evidence of any breach of the Government's price control regulations, he should bring this to the attention of the appropriate authority.
