§ Mr. George Rodgersasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection how many prosecutions have been undertaken by the Department for breaches of the price control regulations since the most recent legislation was introduced.
§ Mr. MaclennanSo far no prosecutions have been undertaken under the Counter-Inflation Act 1973. The power to undertake prosecutions in relation to price regulation orders under Section 2 of the Prices Act 1974 lies with local weights and measures authorities except in Scotland, where prosecutions are the responsibility of the procurator fiscal. I am not aware that there may have been any prosecutions under this section of the Act.
284WIf my hon. Friend has evidence of any breach of the Government's price control regulations, he should bring this to the attention of the appropriate authority.
