HC Deb 29 November 1974 vol 882 cc272-3W
Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many riders of motor cycles, showing separately those aged under 20 years, were killed and seriously injured, respectively, in the years ended March 1973 and March 1974; and what total number of motor cycles were licensed in each of those years in Great Britain.

Mr. Carmichael

Following are the figures:

RIDERS OI MOTOR CYCLES
1972–73 1973–74
All ages
Killed 505 506
Seriously injured 8,211 9,222
Under 20
Killed 236 235
Seriously injured 3,920 4,719

No information is available on the number of motor cycles licensed separately from other two-wheeled motor vehicles, but motor cycle traffic mileage rose by 12 per cent. between 1972–73 and 1973–74.
