HC Deb 29 November 1974 vol 882 c263W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what statutory authority exists for the British Government to take a unilateral decision on extending fishing limits to 50 miles or more, without reference to the EEC Council of Ministers.

Mr. Bishop

No statutory authority exists at present for any extension in United Kingdom fishery limits beyond 12 miles, irrespective of our membership of the EEC. Any further measures necessary will be considered in the light of the outcome to the Law of the Sea Conference.
