HC Deb 28 November 1974 vol 882 c199W
21. Mr. Goodhart

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans he has to recruit more prison staff.

Mr. Concannon

Every means of recruiting prison officers is being used. Advertisements are inserted daily in Ulster newspapers and a television publicity campaign has been continuously mounted since August 1973. A special exhibition has been designed and will be displayed at appropriate public gatherings, and plans are being made to extend the recruiting campaign to Great Britain in the near future. The co-operation of prison officers in running prisons is essential and their work, particularly during the riots in the Maze, deserves great praise.
