§ 54. Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in discussing EEC draft document R/2717/74 and, in particular, the proposed arrangements for IPT sugar supplies.
§ Mr. StrangDetailed discussions on document R/2717/74, setting out proposals for the future sugar regime of the Community, took place at the Council of Ministers' meetings in October and November. It is hoped that the regime will be agreed at the December meeting.. So far as progress on arrangements for preferential imports from the developing Commonwealth and FIEC associates are concerned, I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend's statement to the House on 21st November 1974.— [Vol. 881, c. 1535.]
§ 55. Mr. Hardyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied that the EEC will not seek to prevent the importation into the United Kingdom of over 1 million tons of sugar from Commonwealth cane producers in 1975; and if he will take such steps as are required to guarantee this.
§ Mr. StrangAs my right hon. Friend said in his statement to the House on 21st November 1974—[Vol. 881. c. 1535]
166W—discussions on the import of up to 1.4 million tons of sugar per year from the developing Commonwealth and EEC associates, have made considerable progress. The measures we have agreed, together with the statement of the Council of Foreign Ministers on 12th November, will be sufficient to give the United Kingdom cane refineries the supplies of raw sugar which they require.
