HC Deb 27 November 1974 vol 882 cc187-8W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many administrative staff are employed by each of the nationalised industries in England, Scotland and Wales, respectively.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

I regret that for the industries for which my right hon. Friend has responsibilities the information is not readily available in the form the hon. Gentleman seeks. The following may, however, provide some guidance:

The following numbers of British Steel Corporation employees have staff status —mainly monthly paid: in England, 36,350; in Scotland, 6,800; in Wales, 17,650.

The following numbers of Post Office employees earn £3,500 a year or more: in England, 11,593; in Scotland, 599; in Wales, 430.
