HL Deb 27 November 1974 vol 354 c1486WA
LORD O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they are unable to say how much the Institutions of the EEC have cost the British taxpayer to date.

LORD JACQUES

The Budget of the European Communities is used solely for financing the activities of the four Institutions of the Community which are the Council, the Assembly, Court of Justice and the Commission. I would refer the noble Lord to the reply that I gave him on November 19 which made clear that the payments made by Her Majesty's Government to the budget of the European Communities since the United Kingdom joined the Community have totalled £310 million. This sum has been used for financing the activities of the Community Institutions, and was partly offset by receipts of some £190 million.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes before seven o'clock.
