§ Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the total amount of public money saved by the wage stop and the estimated cost of administering this measure for each of the three years for which figures are available.
§ Mr. Alec JonesI regret that the information required to enable an accurate estimate to be made of the saying in public expenditure and the administrative cost of the wage stop is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. For the numbers wage-stopped in August 1974 the saving in supplementary benefit is estimated to have been somewhat below £1 million in a full year.
