asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will now make a statement concerning future work to be carried out at Rosyth Dockyard.

I cannot add to what I have said to my hon. Friend the Member for Fife, Central (Mr. Hamilton).

39. Mr. Gourlay

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when he estimates there will be spare capacity in Rosyth dockyard to undertake work connected with the North Sea oil industry.

For the reasons I have explained in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Fife, Central (Mr. Hamilton) I cannot say yet whether, or when, there will be spare capacity at Rosyth.

However, as I have assured the House, in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Sheffield, Heeley (Mr. Hooley), close attention is being given to the requirements of the North Sea oil industry and other offshore energy exploration, with a view to the Royal dockyards providing assistance wherever they can.
