HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 c53W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people were employed in that part of the steel industry in Wales which was nationalised (a) immediately prior to nationalisation in 1967, and (b) in 1973, respectively.

Mr. Meacher

I have been asked to reply.

In June 1967 65,400 people were employed in iron and steel making activities in Wales in firms which are now nationalised. In June 1973 the British Steel Corporation employed 63,200 people on iron and steel making activities in Wales.
