§ Mr. Moonmanasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to ensure that adequate regulations 52W exist for the carrying of dangerous liquids in vehicles and include provision for details of the toxic and hazardous waste contents of tankers to be displayed on the vehicles with instruction for safe treatment in case of accident or spillage.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerRegulations already in force require vehicles and packages used for the conveyance by road of inflammable liquids, corrosive substances and organic peroxides to bear labels indicating the name of the substance and the hazards involved, as well as laying down certain basic safety precautions. Further regulations in course of preparation will require documents to be carried on the vehicle showing the name of the substances being conveyed and require the driver to be provided with written instructions relating to the hazards presented by the load and the precautions to be taken in the event of an accident. The extension of regulations to other substances is under review at present. In addition, a scheme is being adopted on a voluntary basis whereby tankers will carry a code-marking indicating to the emergency services the immediate action required in an emergency.
