HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 c79W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will establish a social services office in the Forest of Dean area in view of the difficulties the absence of such an office causes in the provision of full services.

Mr. Alec Jones

This is a matter for the Gloucestershire County Council. I understand that it is hoped that it will be possible to establish such an office during the course of the next financial year subject to the availability of suitable office accommodation.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many social workers are employed to cover the needs of the Forest of Dean.

Dr. Owen

This is a matter for the Gloucestershire County Council. I understand, however, that the needs of the Forest of Dean are covered specifically by one principal social worker, three senior social workers, 11 social workers, two assistant social workers and an occupational therapist. In addition to these members of staff, the forest is part of a wider area which is covered by an area director supported by three further principal social workers.
